11 Bit Studios rocked the market in early 2018 with the release of Frostpunk, a completely original take on the post-apocalyptic genre by placing gamers in the role of managing a dying civilization being frozen out of everything and relying solely on one giant generator. It’s the kind of game that would have made for a perfect Netflix series had Netflix not been converged. But I digress.
The developers recently revealed that there’s a new entry inbound for the Frostpunk franchise called Frostpunk: The Last Autumn. A large-scale prequel expansion pack for the original game.
The new entry was announced with a minute and a half long trailer that offers a short insight into what you can expect. You can check it out below.
We don’t get to see any gameplay, but we do learn that the setting takes place just before the winter holocaust that pervades the landscape in the original Frostpunk story.
I’m not shocked that 11 Bit Studios went with a prequel instead of moving the story forward, since they’ll likely only progress the narrative onward with a proper sequel.
I imagine leading up to the January 21st release we’ll also get a second trailer that outlines more of the gameplay mechanics and elements that fill out the Last Autumn expansion pack.
The pitch so far is that the new expansion offers all new architecture for players to build, all new gameplay mechanics to master, and a race against time as winter drapes the landscape in the deadly cold.
Majority of the action will unfold at Site 113, and players will have some new steam-powered technologies at their disposal, along with an all new set of rules to adhere to utilizing the Book of Laws.
I can’t really say much as to what they should improve on or change since the original Frostpunk was a really solid title, but we’ll see what they have in store when January 21st, 2020 rolls around the Frostpunk: The Last Autumn expansion pack releases.
If you missed the first released of the game before this update and looking for the game cheats, we already make it and you can test it on single player or offline mode.
